5. How Much To Feed?

The following are guidelines as to what amounts to feed as this will vary with age, breed, health status, exercise levels, stress levels as well as individual differences which will be factors in how much food is enough for each animal.  The amount of food that you need to feed your dog will change over time as he adjusts to eating a raw diet.

At first he will eat more as his metabolism changes and his body adjusts to the new diet.  If you notice a weight gain above the ideal, (you should be able to see a nice tuck up and a waist as well as be able to readily feel the ribs) start cutting back and increasing exercise levels.  A good rule of thumb is to feed approximately 2% of an adult dog's body weight daily.  Toy breeds burn more calories and may need more food per pound of body weight than adult dogs of larger breeds.  Puppies need to eat more than their adult counterparts.  They should be fed 3 meals per day.  Between 3-6 months of age puppies may need 10% of their body weight in food.  Remember not to over feed puppies they should be kept lean enough so you can readily feel their ribs.

Never feed your pet COOKED bones.

We do not recommend combining raw foods with kibble.

Each meal fed does not have to be nutritionally balanced as this is accomplished over a 3-4 week time span.  That is why we recommend feeding a variety of meats, poultry and vegetables.
