The Raw Diet: 1. 2. 3. 4.
5. 6. 7. 8.
3. Why Switch to Raw?
Dogs are carnivores as well as opportunistic eaters, cats
are obligate carnivores (they must have meat/bones in their diet) for
optimal health.
Feeding a raw diet gives you 100% control over the quality and quantity
of the ingredients that you feed your pet.
The carnivore digestive system is physiologically designed to eat raw
meat and bones. Their digestive system is not designed to digest grain
based foods. They do not have teeth with which to chew or to grind
their food. Their teeth are specifically designed to rip, tear, crush,
and shred meat and bones.
Commercial kibble for our pets is comparable to us eating fast foods
and sugar coated cereals without any fresh foods daily. Like our pets
we would not starve but our immune system, and over all health would
not be at an optimum level. A diet of fresh foods ensures enzymes in
their natural state as well as abundant nutrient levels.
Digestibility and nutritional values of commercial pet foods is low.
The high salt content, high carbohydrate and calcium levels in dog food
is harmful.
Commercial pet food promotes tartar development on teeth.
The carbohydrate content of kibble ranges from 40-60%. Carnivores get
their energy needs met through meats and proteins. In adult non
reproducing dogs no needs have been established for levels of
carbohydrates. Carnivores in the wild eat a diet that is very low in
carbohydrates. Carbohydrates have been implicated in causing diabetes,
skin problems, pancreatic insufficiency, obesity, arthritis, bladder
stones, cancer, incontinence etc.
No scientist has ever seen wild dogs or feral cats hunt and chase down
a field of grain or cook their prey/ kill over an open fire.
